Hello everyone,
The time has come for our first ESN cantus of this semester!!!
This is the party you just HAVE to attend!
Ask your fellow erasmusstudents who have been here since the first semester and they'll tell you why you CAN'T MISS this party!!! :)

For those who don't know what a cantus is:
A cantus is a very old tradition in Flemish studentlife were we drink a lot of beer and sing songs together.
Once you pay the entree price you can DRINKS AS MUCH BEER AS YOU WANT for the entire cantus.
HOWEVER? A cantus isn't like a regular party! You have to follow some traditional rules and YOU WILL HAVE TO STICK TO THE RULES ALL THE TIME.

I will explain the basic rules of the cantus already so you can read them so you all can come prepared! ;)
BEER IS A HOLY DRINK, and one should treat beer with respect. So, it is not allowed to spill it, pour it away or throw it around! This will be watched closely!!!
If anyone throws with beer, he/she will be KICKED OUT!
During the cantus we use some old formal rules. Here's some vocabulary now:
-“Ad fundum”: it means you drink your glass to the bottom. So finish it at once.
-“Corona”: translated it means the circle. It is used to split up the room, so the “left corona” are the people sitting at the left, and so on. When the cantor says that the left corona sings the first strophe, only the people at the left are allowed to sing the first strophe.
-“Prosit Corona”: When the senior shouts this, we all stand up and put our glass in the air, we reply with “prosit senior” and we wait till he says “Ad fundum”. Before drinking our glass, we say: “prosit senior, prosit corona” and finish our glass. (“Prosit” means “cheers”)
-“Senior, Peto Verbum”: it is not allowed to talk straight to the senior. When you do wanna ask something to him or her, you always ask the “right to speak” by “Senior, peto verbum” (I ask the right to speak)
-He replies by “Habes or “Non habes”. When he says “habes”, you are allowed to speak, when he says “non habes” it is clear, you just shut up and sit down again.
-“Senior, Peto tempus personalis”: When you are allowed to speak, you can ask in an orginal way for “a tempus personalis”, a personal break. This is when you really have to go to the toilet. Most likely, the senior will tell you: “non habes”. But you never know.
-“Silentium”: VERY IMPORTANT. It means silence, of course. Everybody shuts up and listens to the senior. If you aren’t silent, you will be punished! The senior will use a hammer to make his point more clear.
-“Cantus ex, tempus in” : This is the end of the cantus and the start of the break. Hurry to the toilet, you will need it.
-“Tempus ex, cantus in”: End of the break, the cantus continues.
-“Omnes ad sedes”: means “everybody has to sit down”. We reply by “sedimus” and sit down.
-“Surgite” means “everybody stand up”. We reply by “surgimus” and stand up.
This all sounds very confusing and difficult, but you'll see you will get the hang of it very quick!!! :)
